What's the Hell Going on There..Srilanka..

Journal Entry: Mon May 11, 2009, 4:52 AM

'1,000 civilians killed'.. In two Days!!

A doctor today said as many as 1,000 civilians had been killed in two nights of artillery attacks on a government-designated safe zone in Sri Lanka.

The doctor, V Shanmugarajah, reported that hundreds of bodies had been brought to a hospital as the UN said the bloodbath it had feared since the government launched its all-out campaign to destroy the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) had now become a reality.

The United Nations has described the situation in northern Sri Lanka as a "bloodbath" after reports of heavy civilian casualties at the weekend.

UN spokesman in Colombo Gordon Weiss said more than 100 children died during the "large-scale killing of civilians".

Where is everyone? Where's US's great power when it's truly needed?
OW..i've almost forgot.. There's no OIL in Srilanka..that's why people there deserve to be killed without a single action..

What kind of world we're living in?

I kinda hoped that maybe the US would be a little bit more proactive with Bush gone. Then again, my country isn't exactly doing anything either.
... fuck... The UN seems so cool and collected about it, why aren't they angry?

...did I say that?
:iconkommandant-patches:
I think the US won't act because they're worrying with the talibans already... you know, their government might be afraid of getting into another detour, like they did with Iraq... plus, Sri Lanka is not a strategic point for them... they only interfere when their interest are compromised, not when human rights are broken or things like that... why do you think they say the cuban government has broken human rights? they want their vacational island back... or accuse Chavez to be antidemocratic? coz he has oil... But still there must be over 30 repressive governments around this world that the US don't denounce, because those governments collaborate with them... and the UN can't move a finger against them, because the US government controls the organization... there are lots of things to be fixed in this world... it's a pity there's not enough time...

Why America? Why not the British or any of the other superpowers?
The US already have their hands full with Iraq and Afghanistan. Available troops need to be sent to Afghanistan seeing as we're losing the war over there. We can't be sending them out to every crisis that happens to pop up.
If we sent soldiers to Sri Lanka all we'd accomplish is pushing the Tamil Tigers into guerrilla warfare. Then it would be another Iraq just with more casualties since the LTTE are much better equipped than the insurgents. Civil wars should be kept within respective countries. Outside war influence and action from first world countries on third world prove disastrous. Iraq and Afghanistan are perfect examples of that.

It would appear this time that it was the government. Artillery shells were apparently fired from government positions. Both sides would be more than happy to kill civilians in order to further propaganda claims.
Yes, it's a civil war that has been going on since 1983.
